The Cycling Promotion Fund (CPF) was set up by some visionary businesses in the bicycle industry to enable the sector to play an active role in the promotion of cycling and to work with Governments to make Australia more bicycle-friendly.
Achievements
 The interests of the bicycle industry is aligned with bicycle riders, cycling organisations and health promotion bodies. This provides tremendous potential synergies and opportunities for the cycling sector to work together. It is impossible to discuss the achievements of the Cycling Promotion Fund without acknowledging the hard work of countless other groups and individuals.
The cycling sector is lucky to attract passionate supporters who have worked tirelessly at a number of levels over many years to get a better deal for bicycle riders. These supporters include bicycle user groups (BUGs), state cycling organisations, cycling advocates and the Bicycle Federation of Australia, among others. Some of the key achievements in cycling in Australia over the last year includeCycling has been increasing in popularity over the last 4 years and is now the 4th most popular physical activity in Australia - more popular than golf and fishing, Bicycle sales have increased by 22% from 2001 to 2004, exceeding 1 million bicycles a year over the last 4 years, We have been successful in increasing positive media coverage of cycling leading to more positive attitudes to cycling, CPF publications have been distributed widely enabling people to make more informed choices, Regular business of cycling breakfast events have led to increased awareness of cycling and its benefits with decision makers and business leaders around Australia. Investment into cycling facilities and promoting of cycling has been increasing in most states and at local government level, making it easier and safer to ride. The quality of cycling facilities and programs has been increasing over the last 4 years. Cycling events around Australia have been increasing and seen record attendance numbers. Riding to work is increasing in popularity in urban centres around Australia and innovative programs have been implemented to encourage and promote riding to work. The number of women cycling has been increasing slowly but steadily over the last 4 years. Cycle tourism is booming around Australia with thousands of people using their bicycles in their holidays. The Where to Ride section at the Bicycling Australia Show saw a 50% increase in exhibitors and the Where to Ride Magazine showcases the many cycle tourism opportunities around Australia.
