Federal Election Campaign:The CPF is working with the BFA and Cycling Australia on the election campaign to get support for the key asks of the cycling sector. We have informed every council around Australia about the program and asked for their support. It is great to see support letters coming from  rural and urban councils, demonstrating that many councils are keen to improve conditions for bicycle riders. Access to funding would enable them to speed up implementing their strategies. We have been meeting ministers, shadow ministers and key staff to seek support and every MP has received our new publications and copy of the key election asks. A website has been developed as one of the communication tools
www.vote4cycling.com.au

Please visit to find out more about the campaign and download a web banner to include on your websites.

We have included a facility for local councils and cycling organisations to submit potential projects which are ready to be implemented but lack of funding is stopping the process.

Provide consumers with tips and information on cycling ·         the CPF pamphlets and publications are very popular and are distributed around Australia through cycling organizations, government departments, local government, travel smart programs and bike shops http://www.cyclingpromotion.com.au/content/category/3/38/153/  ·         Currently we are developing publications for kids as we are getting lots of requests from schools, bicycle education providers and programs which encourage kids to cycle to school

Promote cycling to the media ·         The CPF team has established a good network of journalists around Australia. We keep up them up to date with regular information on cycling and have established ourselves as a credible source of information on cycling.

We purchased a list of over 600 journalists and our policy and research officer sends regular email news items to them·         Regular media releases are distributed through the AAP media net, resulting in regular radio interviews and newspaper coverage ·         Our regular media scan demonstrates that our media campaign is working. The number of articles on cycling has been increasing enormously

Bicycling Achievement Awards

There are some amazing programs and initiatives happening around Australia to promote and encourage cycling. The CPF runs annual Awards to recognize and reward achievement and innovation and share the information to inspire more organizations to implement such programs.

The CPF is calling again for nominations from around Australia for the Bicycling Achievement Awards. This year we have set up a dedicated website

www.cyclingawards.com.au

to enable people to make registrations online. This year winners in each category will receive $1,000 towards their work in promoting and encouraging cycling. All nominations will be included in a booklet which is being distributed widely around Australia to share best practice and inspire others. The CPF has received sponsorship from the National Heart Foundation, Australian Cyclist and the Federal Government for the Awards.

Deadline for nominations is the 30th of November 2007

Fund Grassroots programs which promote and encourage cycling

The CPF supports innovative grassroots program which promote and encourage cycling at the local level. Many of these programs are innovative and have considerable community support. We assist them to write up the program so they can be used to gain Government support.

The Federal Government just announced around $300,000 in grants to encourage and promote cycling at the grassroots level. Many of those programs are based on the grassroots programs we have supported and organizations have used evidence developed by the CPF to gain funding.   This month the CPF is running a joint campaign with the Victorian Police during Safety month to encourage bicycle riders to light up. The police provides bicycle riders with information on bike lights available and the legal requirement and gives away lights to encourage bicycle riders to do the right thing. This is proving very popular and improves relations between police and bicycle riders.

Research
The CPF received a Federal Government research grant to undertake research into the barriers to cycling and effective strategies in getting more people to cycle. We believe this provides the industry with a great opportunity to provide key advice to Federal Government and hopefully shape future Government investment.

Branding Campaign

The CPF has established itself as a respected organisation with considerable recognition for its achievement in promoting cycling in Australia. This profile is one of the best tools to lift brand awareness. We also run a number of marketing and promotion campaigns to lift awareness of the CPF and its members.

This is something our members can assist us. We would like to encourage you to use the CPF logo on all your promotional and marketing material. Consumers increasing are seeking brands which invest some of their profits back into a good cause. Why not let your customers and potential customers know that you invest money back into cycling, to work towards making Australia more cycle friendly and create more great places to ride.
