The challenge has been spearheaded by 22 year old teacher Michael Smith and Andras Nagy, a 25 year old engineer, who both participate actively in Tasmanian and interstate road bike racing. “As avid cyclists we have always considered riding around our beautiful state Tasmania. The 2009 ‘Coast to Coast for Canines’ charity ride, allows us to combine both the elements of a physically and mentally demanding challenge with an opportunity to raise funds for the Guide Dogs Tasmania (GDT),” say Smith and Nagy.
At Body Torque we think this is a pretty worthy cause and love that these cyclists are using their love of the sport to help somebody in need. We decided to help them out with some sponsorship and we’d like to challenge you to consider helping out too. It costs approximately $25,000 to raise, train and maintain each guide dog throughout its working life. Guide Dogs Tasmania has on average eighteen puppies in training, seven dogs in Guide Dog training and twenty-four working dogs in the state. Because there is no government funding for the program Guide Dogs Tasmania rely heavily on support from donors and sponsors.
